Driveway Replacement in
Montgomery County, MD

When patching isn’t enough and the whole driveway needs to come out — done right, from the ground up.

Repair or Replace? We’ll Tell You What Your Driveway Actually Needs

There’s a difference between a driveway that needs a repair and a driveway that needs to be replaced. A repair fixes a problem. A replacement means the problem is bigger than the surface — usually the base underneath has failed, and no amount of patching or sealing is going to fix that. We’ll tell you honestly which situation you’re in before we ever recommend the more expensive option.

Signs You Actually Need a Full Replacement

Widespread alligator cracking across most of the surface, not just a section or two. Grass or weeds growing up through multiple cracks, which usually means the base underneath has broken down completely. A driveway that’s settled unevenly, with low spots that hold water no matter how many times you’ve had it patched. Potholes that keep coming back in the same spots after repair. If you’re dealing with one or two of these in a small area, that’s often still a patch or resurface situation. If it’s widespread, that’s a replacement conversation.

Removing the Old Driveway

A real replacement starts with taking out what’s there. We remove the entire old surface and haul it away — old asphalt gets recycled, not dumped, which is both the responsible thing to do and standard practice in this industry. Once the old surface is out, we can actually see what we’re dealing with underneath: the real condition of the base, whether there’s a drainage problem that’s been hiding under the driveway the whole time, and whether the ground itself needs to be corrected before we build anything new on top of it. This is often the point where we find the actual root cause of a driveway’s problems — something a patch or a resurface would have just paved right over.

Building the New Base

The old base rarely gets reused as-is. We rebuild it with fresh stone or asphalt millings, compacted properly and sized for what the new driveway needs to hold. If the ground underneath is soft or has drainage issues, this is the point where we address them — regrading where needed and correcting the pitch so water moves off the driveway instead of sitting on it. We also check how the new base meets the garage, walkway, and street, since those transitions affect the finished surface. A new driveway built on the same bad base that failed the first time will fail again. Getting the base right gives the new asphalt a stable foundation.

The New Surface

Once the base is ready, we lay fresh asphalt and compact it to the correct density with our own equipment. We pay attention to the full driveway, from the main driving area to the edges and the places where it meets the garage, walkway, and street. Edges get banked cleanly, and transitions are set flush so the finished surface looks and functions as one complete driveway. We check the surface and clean up the site before we leave, so you’re left with a finished driveway rather than a construction area. Every driveway replacement also comes with a one-year workmanship warranty.

We’d Rather Talk You Out of a Replacement If You Don’t Need One

A full replacement is real money, and we’re not going to recommend it if a resurface or a patch will genuinely solve your problem. We’ll look at the actual condition of your driveway, tell you honestly which category it falls into, and explain our reasoning either way.
