Asphalt Paving in Bethesda, MD
Family-owned driveway paving, sealcoating, and repair for Bethesda homeowners since 1988.
Bethesda Driveways, From Downtown Streets to Wooded Lots
Bethesda runs from tight, tree-lined streets close to downtown out to some of the largest lots in Montgomery County near the river, and the driveways vary just as much. Older neighborhoods close to the Beltway often have narrow, aging driveways poured decades ago. Closer to the Potomac, in communities like Cabin John and Carderock Springs, lots run bigger and driveways run longer, winding through mature trees. We’ve paved in both kinds for close to 40 years.
This isn’t an area we’re learning from a map. I lived on Lone Oak Drive in Bethesda for a few years while my daughter was at Walter Johnson High School and my other daughter was at Ashburton Elementary, right around the corner. We know the schools, the traffic patterns, and the way this town actually works because we’ve lived it, not just quoted jobs in it.
What We Do in Bethesda

Driveway Paving and Replacement
When a driveway is too far gone to patch, we take it down to grade, rebuild the base properly, and lay fresh asphalt compacted to a tight, even surface, not a quick resurface over a bad foundation.

Driveway Widening and Extensions
More parking, a turnaround, or extending a driveway to meet a new wall, patio, or addition. We tie the new section into the existing asphalt cleanly.

Sealcoating
We match the method to the driveway — oil-based sealer applied under pressure for newer surfaces, latex brushed on by hand for older ones.

Crack Filling and Patching
Small cracks and soft spots don’t stay small once a Bethesda winter gets to them. We catch and repair them early, using rubberized crack sealant and infrared heat to blend the patch into the surrounding surface.

Resurfacing and Overlay
If the base underneath is still sound, a fresh layer over the existing surface can be the smarter, less expensive fix. We’ll tell you honestly when that’s the case and when it isn’t.

Culvert Pipe Replacement
Collapsed or rusted pipes under a driveway cause sinkholes and standing water. It’s a job most paving companies avoid because of the permit process, but it’s work we do regularly. See our dedicated Culvert Pipe Replacement page for the full detail and a real local case study.
Bethesda Neighborhoods We Work In
Every part of Bethesda has its own character. Here’s where we’ve done the most work:
Kenwood
Known across the region for its cherry blossoms every spring along Kennedy Drive, Dorset Avenue, and Kenwood Avenue. Established homes on tree-lined streets close to downtown.
Carderock Springs
Wooded lots near the Potomac and a feeder neighborhood for Walt Whitman High School. Mature trees mean we see our share of root intrusion and shaded, damp driveways here.
Cabin John
A small, woodsy community along MacArthur Boulevard with direct access to the C&O Canal towpath. Winding streets and a mix of original cottages and larger rebuilt homes.
Glen Echo Heights
Large homes on leafy streets just west of downtown Bethesda, with a mix of classic colonials and newer builds.
Somerset and Wildwood
Established, walkable communities closer to the Beltway with older driveways that often need full replacement rather than a patch.
Don’t see your neighborhood? We’ve worked all over Bethesda. Call and we’ll come take a look.
Bethesda also has plenty of churches, schools, and community facilities with parking lots that need paving, striping, or sealcoating. If that’s you, visit our Bethesda commercial page.
Why Bethesda Driveways Are Different
Bethesda has one of the highest concentrations of top schools in Montgomery County — Walt Whitman High School, Landon School, and Holton-Arms all sit within a few miles of each other, along with Ashburton and Burning Tree elementary schools. That means daily drop-off and pickup traffic rolling over residential streets and driveways that weren’t built for that kind of repeat wear.
The Capital Crescent Trail runs right through Bethesda on the old B&O rail line, and it’s now the most-used rail-trail in the entire country, over a million users a year. Between that, the NIH campus, and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Rockville Pike, this town sees more steady traffic than most, and it shows up in how fast driveways wear on the busier corridors.
Streets like Arrowood Road carry some of the largest, oldest driveways in Bethesda, often on bases that were never built for the vehicles using them today. Whatever your street, we’ll give you a straight read on whether it needs a patch, an overlay, or a full replacement.
Driveway Widening and Replacement for Rafal and Anna
Bethesda, MD — Completed Summer 2026
What We Found
Rafal and Anna had recently had a wall built in their backyard and needed the driveway extended to reach it, along with more width along the left edge for extra room. The existing driveway also had a downspout drainage pipe running underneath it, and the asphalt in front of the garage needed to come out and be regraded. The full project totaled about 1,610 square feet once the new sections were added in.
What We Did
We marked out the new widened area and hauled away the dirt from the extension. The downspout pipe was buried through a trench under the new section, and we filled that in properly before building up the base. We removed the asphalt in front of the garage, installed stone as needed, and compacted everything, lowering the grade at the garage and front apron so water drains the way it should.
We laid 3 inches of base asphalt across the new and repaired areas and compacted it with a roller. Once the base was set, we applied EM-50 tack coat so the layers would bond, then machine-laid 2 inches of topping asphalt across the full 1,610 square feet and power rolled everything to a smooth, consistent finish. Banked the edges, cleaned up the site before we left.
The Result
Rafal and Anna got a driveway that finally reaches their new wall, with real width added on the left side, a garage apron that drains properly, and a buried downspout pipe instead of one running exposed under cracking asphalt. One-year workmanship warranty included.
“Mike and his team did a great job on our driveway. Highly recommend — professional and reasonable price.”
